This video and the photos below were taken on 1/26/2012. Both show the construction of the Multi Modal Transportation Center now known as Uptown Station in Normal IL. These were taken using my digital camera not the Sony digital video recorder I recently purchased. We were in Normal attending the EVening of EVs event that night. The shots were taken from our room at the Marriott facing Uptown Station Multi Modal Transportation Center.
Uptown Station is a good example of a city being proactive instead of reactive. This project was started right as the US economy took a nose dive. It has provided many jobs and kept multiple companies and their employees working when others were unemployed.
Instead of crying about how evil high speed rail is – Normal took TIGER grant funds – created jobs to build a transportation hub that will improve their community. Many other cities could learn by this example.
