The other day I did witness a snow plow coming down our street. This happened just a bit after a man with a child in the front seat went sliding at our intersection. This driver was not driving fast by any stretch of the imagination. They were actually driving very cautiously. Later on a woman driving about the same size car came speeding down our road way above the speed limit but didn’t have an issue in the same area of the road. Either way I’d venture to guess that nothing is being applied to the roads in regards to ice. Yes the main roads are almost all fully clear.
While driving through Springfield last night I noticed that the situation there seems to be the same. The main roads are clear but residential and business streets are plowed but ice rinks. I’m not sure if this a cost issue in regards to materials. There have been reports that some communities are cutting back on salt applications do to the economy. Other areas have used sand to save money. Whatever the reason may be. It’s aggravating to have to see people drive on an ice rink.
I will say it was nice to once again see a snow plow remember our street. From a quick glance down the street. It looks as if our home is one of the only ones on the block that cleared the snow from our walks and driveway. I did see someone at the end of the road using a snow blower today. And across the street it looked as if one home had cleared their drive as well. Homes that used to take snow removal seriously have seemed to stop for some odd reason.
At 3 AM yesterday I went out to clear snow. The walk closest to our door was drifted over again about 30 or 35 minutes later. Which I found odd considering there didn’t seem to be much wind. So the clearing I had done for our newspaper person ended up being pointless. At least it helped with being able to get out of the driveway that morning.
