I think I read about Wowballs at Illinois State Fair in our local newspaper before seeing them in action. Wowballs reminded me of Jackie Chan Zorbing scene in Armour of God II: Operation Condor. One Road Rules season had cast members getting inside a OGO and rolling down a hill. Walking on water was inventors original intent. According to their website they decided rolling down hills would be more fun. It looks like Wowballs has brought original idea to Illinois State Fair this year.

In 1994, Andrew Akers and Dwane van der Sluis invented a big inflatable ball that people could jump inside and roll around in. Initially they thought they could use the ball for walking on water but they soon found they could have more fun rolling down hills in it, and the activity of ‘zorbing’ was born.

Harris Around-the-World: ZORB!
For Dwayne van der Sluis and Andrew Akers, the idea of walking on water held endless fascination. That’s why the two friends set out to develop a floating ball that could hold a standing person on water. At the time, such balls were already in production, but they had to be inflated and deflated as the passenger entered and exited, which took time and effort.
