Maybe my memory is getting foggy but when I was younger I don’t remember people taking photos of themselves on train tracks. The past couple of years it seems that the latest generation of teenagers finds this fun. Many of these photos are taken on active rail lines that have daily trains running.
Recently The State Journal Register featured a picture of a group heading to homecoming all dressed up and on train tracks. I have no idea if those tracks are active. But this really isn’t something that should be promoted. I’ve seen many other examples of this recent phenomenon. In our area there have been several deaths related to someone being on the tracks or trying to cross them recently.
Over the years there have been some very serious train versus person or car accidents and deaths in Central Illinois. It’s probably not a good idea to promote young people taking photos on or near active rail lines.
