This Ferris wheel is located in Crystal Gardens. Which is a part of Navy Pier Park in Chicago. I think this is one of the more well known icons of Chicago. Until other day I had never seen this structure.
Update 5/11/2016 Ferris Wheel pictured above has since been replaced with a taller / larger updated model as of 2016. I’d venture a guess at some of the reasoning behind this upgrade – many US cities are getting their own Ferris Wheels past couple of years. So to stay competitive in tourist market a new version was needed.
Information from the Navy Pier Park website.
Take a 7 minute ride on Navy Pier’s most visible attraction, the 150-foot-high Ferris wheel. The Ferris wheel is open year-round and is fun for kids of all ages. Modeled after the very first Ferris wheel, which was built for Chicago’s 1893 World Colombian Exposition, the Navy Pier Ferris wheel provides unparalleled views of the skyline and lakefront. The Pier’s wheel has 40 gondolas seating six passengers each. In the evening, the Ferris wheel’s 40 spokes, spanning a diameter of 140 feet, are illuminated by thousands of sparkling lights.

“Navy Pier is due to get a taller Ferris wheel that will be 196 feet tall and is expected to debut in 2016, according to the mayor’s office.”
