My 1800Flowers Succulent Garden disaster

Last month I received a 1800Flowers package containing their Succulent Garden for my birthday. This was my Mom’s way of saying Thank You for the roses I sent her for the same occasion. For some reason those roses decided not to bloom. In the past when I used this company there hasn’t been an issue. 1800Flowers handled the situation above and beyond by resending the same exact order again. I’m not sure if there was a lot of back and forth on the phone to receive this level of service. What I do know is more companies need to follow this example.

I wasn’t expecting anything in return for my gift. It was a surprise when the package came to our door. The box was in good shape when it arrived so I had no reason to reject the delivery. As I slowly and carefully unpacked the contents I heard nothing break. 1800Flowers doesn’t use biodegradable packing peanuts. There was a good amount of these on top of the plant. The Succulent Garden was at the bottom wrapped in bubble wrap and what you see above.

Honestly I didn’t think anything was unusual when I saw the opening in the pot. For some reason I just thought that was the design. Only later did I realize I was wrong and that there was in fact damage to the container. I’m not sure what happened. All I know is I went out of my way to be careful opening the packaging. I had to do a good amount of digging to get to the product. A tall roses box IS NOT what this particular item should be shipped with. But that is exactly what it arrived in.

I’m not really good with plants. I have less than a green thumb. The pictures clearly show this Succulent Garden wasn’t living up to it’s name on arrival. I’m definitely not the person to try and nurse it back to health. My girlfriend picked up a new planter. Sad – but true – you can’t find any pots that aren’t Made in China to purchase. Our local Ace Hardware only offered foreign made pots. My girlfriend is also who did the majority of transplanting the plant to it’s new home.

So far the Succulent Garden has survived. Although many parts still look worse for the wear. The plant seems to have new sprouts growing upwards. It’s the sides and bottom portion that still need to recover. Right now the Succulent Garden isn’t offering much color. Basically the same colors you see in the photos.

Shipping has always been fast when I’ve used 1800Flowers. I’ve never dealt with their customer service options. In this case we were to busy with other things to take the time to make a call or send an email. I figured it’d be more hassle than it was worth in the end. This is why we just purchased another planter and have tried to get the Succulent Garden back to looking healthy.
