This video was taken a few weeks back from inside our room at the Lumière Hotel. The room faced the Mississippi River and Martin Luther King Bridge. From my reading the MLK bridge has been refurbished a few times in it’s long history. In my opinion it’s long overdue for a retrofit or replacement – just doesn’t feel safe driving over this bridge.
The video shows the now long empty dock that once led to the legendary SS Admiral – also known as The President – President Casino Laclede’s Landing until being dismantled for scrap metal in 2011. It still disgust me that this piece of history was so casually passed aside. In a recent episode of Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America the host is shown standing by these now empty pillars at the shows end.
You can see a far away view of Lumière Casino’s competitor Casino Queen across the river. If you look closely you can see their mega water fountain. When Amtrak’s Lincoln Service leaves St. Louis you can sometimes see this same fountain in action from the train.
Right next to Martin Luther King Bridge you see Eads Bridge. The Tom Sawyer Riverboat passes under both of these before going past empty pillars the majestic President ( SS Admiral ) used to call home.
