The Ameren Chevy Volt above should look familiar to my long time readers. This is the same vehicle I featured at the beginning of this year after a visit to an electric car event in Normal Illinois. Unfortunately during the 2012 Illinois State Fair the car was somewhat hidden from the general public. I had missed it on several previous visits. If I hadn’t decided to head back to the fair on the last Sunday – I would have never gotten this video.
This Chevy Volt was hidden behind the electricity safety & geothermal display tents. Across the sidewalk is were you would have found a tent promoting and educating fair visitors on wind energy and other eco friendly topics. This is were you would have found the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives A123 Hymotion Toyota Prius. All of this was easy to miss if you weren’t paying attention, previously aware of the displays or seriously looking for them. In my opinion fair officials did a lousy job of promoting these educational exhibits.
The area was on the main street leading into the fairgrounds. But the way things were set back it was easy to overlook what was being displayed. Especially when you had large crowds passing by blocking the view.
Only the two Mitsubishi i-MiEVs’ on display inside Lt. Governor Sheila Simon’s tent got somewhat promoted. I never heard mention or saw promotional material about the other cars or related educational displays.
