Chess great Bobby Fischer dead in Reykjavik Iceland at the age of 64

The legendary yet controversial chess great Bobby Fischer has died at the age of 64 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Although history will most likely remember this man as one of the greatest chess champions that ever lived. That same history will most likely note that he seemed to be someone who came to hate his own race. Fischer became chess world champion in 1972 during the Cold War. Soviet Union chess players had held this title for over 24 years before Bobby Fischer’s win. While this man born in Chicago, Illinois would become one of the most celebrated Americans at that time. Later in life he became hated by many. His reported anti-Semitic rants and hatred of the country in which he was born led to many feeling he had gone mad. While it is hard to overlook the many odd behaviors and opinions of Bobby Fischer. One can only hope that somewhere in the history of the world his talents as one of the world’s chess greats will not be forgotten.
