I’m over a year late getting this live. The 2013 Illinois State Fair is already over and done with. After seeing several fully electric and plug-in hybrids at this years fair – I figured it was time to get this older video public.
A recent trip to Normal Illinois where I saw three Mitsubishi i-MiEVs also got me motivated to get this recording posted.
The video is a combination of two taken on back to back days. On the first day we walked through without being accosted. The picture display board showed a bunch of stuff I had photos or video of from the EVening of EVs event held on Thursday January 26th 2012.
There was a young man engaging visitors in electric car conversation. In my opinion he didn’t do a very good job of debating the EV haters. I really had to bite my tongue not to jump in and end up getting kicked out of the tent. It really annoys me when those who are suppose to educate stupid people don’t do so. He is shown in the video at several different points.
Day 2 had a few less people visiting the tent. So it was a bit easier to record the cars without having to worry about people getting in the way. That was until a lady working in the tent decided to engage me during my recording session. Here is my description of that event from a previous article.
A women at Lt. Governor Sheila Simon’s 2012 fair tent decided to interrupt my recording of the two Mitsubishi i-MiEVs on display with her chatter. She had seen me recording the day before and thought she could offer me some details on the cars. Shows she didn’t pay attention at all the day before. Or she would have known I probably knew more than her about the vehicles. Even after the look of death rays – she wouldn’t shut up!!
Some people don’t like the design of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. I’m not one of them – I actually like the shape. I still prefer a Nissan LEAF over the i-MiEV. Since the LEAF has a higher top speed and slightly more range per charge. And the Nissan LEAF is now Made in the USA – so that is an even bigger plus. That being said if someone showed up at my door with an i-MiEV – I wouldn’t say no to using it or owning it. I’d prefer a Tesla Model S over both the Nissan and Mitsubishi.
Normal Illinois is a big Mitsubishi i-MiEV supporter. Since the town has a Mitsubishi factory – the company has provided the city with several i-MiEV’s ( simply known as i here in the United States ). Unfortunately the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is NOT built in Normal.
Mitsubishi i-MiEV is built in Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan (Mizushima Plant). Ford Fusion Energi is manufactured in Mexico. Ford Focus Electric is produced in the United States. Nissan LEAF is manufactured in Smyrna, Tennessee for the 2013 model and beyond. Chevrolet Volt is produced at Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant. Tesla Model S is being manufactured in Fremont, California.
