The first time I went to explore the Tesla Motors Superchargers inside Uptown Station Parking Deck Normal Illinois – I found no Model Ss charging. On my second visit last weekend it was the same story. I actually made several trips to the location in one day since I was staying at the Marriott hotel across the street. Each time no luck.
Last Saturday I attended the National Plug In Day event in Normal. As I walked back to the hotel I decided to stop by the Superchargers. Finally I got lucky and found a Model S charging up.
So far I have recorded Illinois electric car license plates 226 EL, 228 EL, 229 EL, 382 EL, 518 EL, 531 EL and now 668 EL.
I was really frustrated when the little girl asked her Mom why I was recording the car. It showed me that many people still aren’t aware of what is going on in their community. Maybe this mother could care less. But she missed an opportunity to add to her daughters education in regards to the environment and how some people think differently about how a car should be powered.
It was also frustrating that someone didn’t appreciate the fact they were seeing an engineering marvel – manufactured by a United States company in the USA – that almost everyone said couldn’t do it.
Guess that woman just didn’t find the Model S sexy like many others do.
The mother must have not known or cared that she was seeing a rare super car. Granted the Model S is becoming less and less rare – but we are still a ways off from seeing one around every corner.
I’d venture a guess that this Tesla Model S owner is from the Chicago area – the window stickers helped me with that. Not sure if they were heading home or heading somewhere else.
There has been some debate regarding parking around the Tesla Motors Superchargers. From what I was told second hand the contract with the City of Normal allows for two of the four spots to offer general parking for any type of vehicle. Seems rather silly to me as large as the parking garage is. But supposedly the contract allows for that.
Disclaimer – I am a very minor Tesla Motors stock owner. Unfortunately I didn’t have near the amount of money I wanted to invest in this company. But I do own a few shares.
