Illinois high speed rail track upgrades outside Auburn

Video was recorded last weekend outside of Auburn Illinois. This shows continued process of track upgrades for higher speed passenger rail between Chicago and St Louis Missouri. Work shown is what forces Amtrak riders between Springfield Illinois and St Louis to be bused to their destination past few months. Instead of working out a way to keep riders inside Amtrak trains – Amtrak prefers what some call bustitution when problems arise. Never a contingency plan to keep passengers on trains. No alternative routing agreements are ever made – none exist for emergency situations – such as freight derailments.

We do see that workers are trying to get job done – they were working on a Saturday.

This area actually had an older double track section – you can see remaining portion of that at crossing. All track that was previously there has been removed. It looks like trees have been cleared to expand space.
