It was freezing cold even with gloves – Amtrak Lincoln Service was running a little late – but I got this shaky video recorded. Trying to balance luggage while using a video camera doesn’t improve my less than excellent recording skills. Since I had a long walk down platform to board I cut video short.
Recorded from new temporary ( a couple of years until new station built ) platform structure. Joliet Union Station has been shutdown to commuter rail & Amtrak passengers. That station is being redeveloped and a new passenger terminal is being built. This plan has been talked about for sometime – new platforms permanent and temporary were built and put in place last year.
All outside work that had been done at Joliet Union Station in 2011 – has now been torn up. Not sure why they put money into project they knew would be destroyed a few years later. Good example of money wasted.
Amtrak Joliet Illinois station is now located below elevated platform in a metal building – some would call it an AmShack.

As of Friday, September 26, 2014, at 10:00 A.M., Metra and Amtrak passenger rail services for Joliet relocated from the existing Joliet Union Station Platforms to the newly constructed platforms for the Joliet Gateway Center.
