Amtrak Lincoln Service 303 – 20 minutes + late – passing Union Pacific work crew on outskirts of Springfield Illinois. Location Woodside Road at Interurban Trail parking lot. Normally trains reduce speeds when passing work crews. Do to ongoing Illinois higher speed track upgrades – Amtrak does this often. I was a bit surprised when Lincoln Service zoomed by at speed.
Unfortunately this very busy intersection is still waiting for quad gates. Part of Illinois higher speed rail upgrades – crossings are being closed or quad gates and other safety systems are being put in place.

Interurban Trail (Sangamon County) is a 4.75-mile (7.6 km) rail trail in Sangamon County, Illinois. It was built by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and occupies an abandoned Illinois Terminal Railroad interurban corridor. It stretches from the south side of Springfield, Illinois, to the center of Chatham, Illinois.
