While riding Amtrak Acela Express to New York from Washington DC – I caught a glimpse of New York Red Bulls Arena in Harrison New Jersey. First part of recording shows stadium as I was heading to New York. Second part is when I was heading back to DC same day.
You see older bridges Amtrak and other passenger rail use. A bit of Newark New Jersey Penn Station. On way to Newark – NJ Transit (NJT) and PATH regional passenger trains are seen. Amtrak no longer stops at Harrison station. Newark Penn is only about 2 minutes away from Harrison.
There doesn’t seem to be any hotels, residential or supporting businesses near Red Bull Arena. You see a Panasonic factory in my video. Everything else seems to be old industry buildings in various forms of decay.
There are efforts to redevelop area. History shows that caution should be used when turning brownfields into residential or business districts. In years past contamination has not been cleaned up properly or not at all. Creating serious health problems for those who move in.
These former industrial areas ( brownfields ) are perfect for solar and wind projects. New Jersey has been pro solar.
My Amtrak Acela Express adventure – rode Acela 2160 to New York. From New York Penn Station – Acela 2165 back to Washington DC.
Recorded September 7th 2016.
