I was bad about doing good pre-trip planning for my Washington DC visit. I hadn’t been back to DC since December 2014. On that excursion I didn’t have enough time to explore city. It was hop on Amtrak Acela do round trip DC to New York and then head home.
This time around I had half an afternoon and evening to walk around. Unfortunately with my poor planning – I missed recording some tourist attractions.
I rode Metro to Smithsonian station and winged it from there. First stop on my long walk was Washington Monument.
It was a warm day with nice breeze – but after awhile that didn’t help me stay comfortable. After good amount of walking and getting turned around on way back to Metro station – I was wiped out when I got to hotel. Honestly surprised I made it up in morning to catch Metro to Washington DC Union Station to catch Acela to New York.
Like many DC landmarks – the Washington Monument has undergone repairs / refurbishment to resolve damage from 2011 earthquake.
