Man vs Food will start taping an episode in Springfield Illinois later today. Last weekend the buzz was all over the radio that the show would be coming to our area. Then on Monday July 13, 2009 the story hit the front page of the State Journal Register. D’Arcy’s Pint will be the first location to get a visit today. The old location for D’Arcy’s was featured on Roker on the Road.
According to the State Journal Register article taping at D’Arcy’s Pint should take place from about 1:30 to 6:45 PM today. Hopefully that schedule won’t fluctuate much. I’ve not been to D’Arcy’s in some time honestly. But I would hate to miss this event. If I show up I’ll be wearing a T-shirt that might make the shows host Adam Richman cringe just a bit. Either way it will be interesting to see what Adam thinks about our cities somewhat famous horseshoe sandwich.
The newspaper article states that Saturday will have the television production moving to Cozy Dog for the day. You can learn more about the history of that location using the links below.
“The Cozy Dog is a delicious hot dog on a stick that is found nation-wide at many county and state fairs.”
The paper has the crew taking Sunday off. I’d venture to guess that during their day off they may explore what Springfield and the surround communities have to offer. While there are many good restaurants in our community. There are also many worthwhile destinations for visitors to make a stop at.
Monday has the Man vs Food production heading to it’s last Springfield destination Joe Rogers’ Original Recipe Chili Parlor. This is were Adam Richman is set to do battle with five bowls of Firebrand chili. The setup for this challenge should start around 7 AM. The article stated the crew might be at this location for eight hours. The actual challenge may take place around 1:30 PM that day.
A few people have been wondered why Adam isn’t stopping in at Charlie Parker’s diner for their huge pancake. I’m sure there is a good explanation. Then again maybe Mr. Richman is gunshy of breakfast food after not being able to complete the 12 egg omelette monster at Beth’s Cafe in Seattle. Charlie Parker’s was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.

The man myself gives his thoughts on Beth’s Cafe Seattle challenge.
On television it did look like just a couple of more bites. I will give him this though. My first year there I tried the 6 egg omlette and only got 95% of the egg plus contents down. The all you can eat hash browns unfortunately went to waste since the Edgewater Hotel doesn’t have refrigerators in the room. The 12 egg has some extras on top of just the egg and hash browns. So I would definitely agree that a mountain of food was sat before him.
